Aesthetic dentistry > Monolithic Zirconium
The biggest difference between monolithic zirconia and normal zirconia core material is that it is not damaged by direct contact with saliva in the oral environment and is more aesthetic than normal zirconia material. It can be used as a single unit, or on chewing surfaces where the chewing force is highest, without the need to process the porcelain material with lower resistance on it.
In zirconia core materials obtained from normal zirconium blocks, porcelain should be completely processed on it and should not be open to the oral environment.
Monolithic zirconia does not require porcelain stacking on it. This is because the tooth color and form can be created aesthetically and be easily polished, so results very close to tooth shine can be obtained.
In people who have posterior region studies and bridge operations, the restoration process can be done completely with monolithic zirconia. More aesthetic results can be obtained by processing porcelain on the front (visible) surfaces of the teeth that do not exert force in the anterior teeth and other visible areas.
Since it does not require porcelain, it can be worked in thin sections, especially in the area between the tooth and gingiva, providing a highly aesthetic appearance.
Since the light transmittance is higher than the normal zirconia core material, a natural tooth effect can be achieved.
The process is mostly based on technological production with CAD / CAM system (designing on a computer and producing with a computer-aided milling system). Porcelain stacking is either unnecessary or only performed in small quantities. This enables a faster production as well as high quality.
In the prosthetic treatment of individuals with tooth clenching problems and fractures in their teeth.
In dental restorations of people who have limited time for treatment with the advantage of a fully digital plan.
In dental treatments that require durable coatings such as implant-supported prostheses.
In people prone to fractures and abrasion, especially as a result of trauma, in anterior teeth.
In those who have severe tooth sensitivity.
In the veneer treatments of people who experience discoloration and gingival discoloration.
Firstly, the final aesthetic state of the restorative process is planned.
In line with this plan, before any operation is performed on the teeth, a three-dimensional finished model is prepared digitally and is shown to the patient so they can determine how this will look in the mouth.
Any damage or defects in the teeth are detected and the teeth are shaped in accordance with the needs of the digital modeling.
The measurements of the teeth are preferably taken with intraoral scanning systems (3 Shape Triodent Scanner) and these measurements are sent to our laboratory.
Here, the aesthetic planning and design of the personalized mouth closure shape is made by transferring it to special programs in the computer environment.
After the design, production is processed with a 3D Printer for trial purposes, and necessary corrections are made by rehearsing in the mouth.
After the corrections are made, this design is matched with zirconia blocks and shaped by the milling method.
Monolithic zirconia is very soft and brittle when scraped. It is transferred to the oven for the baking (sintering) process, which takes an average of 8 hours for hardening. After this firing process, a hard and aesthetic material is created that can withstand up to 1200 mPa.
If necessary, porcelain can be added to the aesthetic areas. The completed work is ideal in terms of tissue compatibility and adaptation to the teeth. It is a biologically accepted material and tissue allergy is rare.
The fact that this is a material with good adaptability and is monoblock increases its resistance and reduces the risk of breakage and chipping (small-size breaks in porcelain) encountered in porcelain teeth. The gray appearance of the gingival junction, which is seen especially in metal-supported porcelains and increases over time, does not occur in these materials.
