Laser technology in implants

The use of laser in dentistry is developing day by day, increasing its benefits and usage in multiple areas.

There are two types of lasers used in dentistry. Soft tissue lasers, including diode lasers and Nd:YAG lasers are widely used. Hard tissue lasers such Er:YAG offer very important advantages and treatment benefits in implant surgery and hard tissue (bone and tooth) operations.

Benefits of laser in implant surgery

In Seamless / Guided Implant Applications

It provides an advantage as it is able to open and manipulate gingival tissues directly. In this way, the implant is placed without needing to use blade. This ensures minimal bleeding, minimal effects to blood supply and minimal pain. It also disinfects all the tissues it comes into contact with, reducing the risk of new infections.

In cases where the infection is removed and the implant is applied immediately after tooth extraction

In teeth that would normally require a delay in implant placement due to infection, laser cleaning can be performed and the implant can be placed immediately after extraction. It also reduces the risk of post-operative complications in cases where there is no infection.

In implant applications on which a fixed tooth will be made immediately

Use of the laser increases the success rate in the integration of the implant into the bone.

In the treatment of peri-implantitis

Laser is the best-known implant and bone surface cleaning and disinfecting tool in the treatment of infection, and subsequent bone resorption on previously made implant surfaces. Thanks to the laser, the implant surface almost regains its original surface structure and it can be treated.
