Orthodontics

Adult orthodontics

Many people still have the misconception that orthodontic treatment cannot be done in the post-childhood period. Almost all problems related to dental crowding can be treated with adult orthodontic treatment.

Some special cases related to the development of jaw bones can also be treated in combination with orthognathic surgery in advanced ages.

It is possible to divide adult orthodontics into two:

01

Hereditary dental or skeletal orthodontic problems.

02

Orthodontic problems caused by abnormal movement of the remaining teeth and subsequently deterioration of jaw structures due to the extraction of one or more teeth. In this case, it is necessary to ensure the teeth are of an adequate shape and size and to compensate the gaps with implants or prostheses. Many people are unaware of this, since such structural disorders that occur later occur gradually, and many aesthetic and functional problems are encountered as a result of not being able to treat them.

Since people´s social lives continue in adulthood, their aesthetic expectations are higher than children. For this reason, we offer transparent aligners (aligner systems, invisible orthodontics, Invisalign), invisible brackets applied from the back of the teeth (lingual orthodontics) and cosmetic tooth-coloured brackets (ceramic, sapphire) as treatment options.

Invisalign | Transparent plate

Transparent aligners can create tooth movements in orthodontics, which were traditionally done by tooth brackets. The aligners wrap the tooth in 3 dimensions and put pressure on the teeth, creating predictable, comfortable and minimal movements. The plates are changed once a week so that they can make small movements to prevent damage to the teeth.

Invisalign is a digital orthodontic treatment method to straighten your teeth, consisting of almost invisible, removable, custom-made aligners.

Digital intraoral scanning can be performed to show our patients how their teeth will look following orthodontic treatment.

Advantages of using Invisalign

The images transferred to the computer environment by digital intraoral scanning of the patients are analyzed with the help of special software. Tooth movements necessary are calculated with a detailed study and the teeth are brought to the required position in the computer environment. The final image is poured into the models via a 3D Printer and transparent plaques are prepared on these models.

Convenience and predictable results

Transparent plating applications, together with accurate planning, provide highly predictable results. We can treat 90% of dental orthodontic problems with clear aligners. Invisalign will be the most compatible treatment option for our patients who want to reduce the frequency of appointments. The material is completely biocompatible.

It has become one of the most preferred orthodontics treatment options due to it level of hygiene, minimal impact on aesthetics, freedom of eating and drinking and comfort.

Almost invisible and without dietary restrictions

The most important advantage of Invisalign is that it is almost completely transparent, so it does not adversely affect your aesthetics. Unlike brackets, there are no restrictions as you can remove the plates in situations such as eating and drinking. In terms of oral hygiene, the use of toothbrush and dental floss can continue in its normal course. Pain, aches, and wounds that may occur in the soft tissues during the habituation period of the brackets do not occur. Appointment duration and frequency are reduced compared to brackets. There are no risks such as breakage problems that may occur with brackets.

Possibility to pause the treatment for a few hours

One of the biggest advantages is that you can take a break from treatment. You can spend 2-3 hours without the aligners in such as in important meetings, weddings, job interviews, special invitations and graduations (unless it is very often).

With the development of technology day by day, Invisalign technology, which can be applied in almost every case, is applied only by orthodontists with Invisalign certificate.

Treatment process

Our treatment procedure for our patients living abroad and with limited time is as follows:
Before treatment
Treatment of all decayed teeth and removal of tartar before orthodontic treatment. There are two options for this stage:

Our patient can have these procedures done at his/her own place of residence.

Our patient can have these procedures done in our clinic. However, in this option, due to the need for extraction of wisdom teeth, root canal treatment or gingival treatment, procedures related to clear aligners are performed at the next stage, not at this stage.

Frequently asked questions about Invisalign | Invisible Braces | Transparent Plate

You will feel a pressure when you put the plates in for the first time. This pressure is due to the force applied to the tooth to create tooth movement. You will adapt to this situation in a short time. You can easily overcome this problem with the low-dose laser therapy we apply in our clinic.

The duration of treatment varies according to each case. In cases with mild or moderate crowding, interdental spaces and planned tooth extraction, the treatment period is shorter. It can last from 4 months to 24 months. Control frequencies can be adjusted according to the planning of the case and vary as once in 4-10 weeks.

Before starting the treatment, all caries and tartar should be cleaned. According to your doctor's decision, wisdom teeth can be extracted before treatment. After the measurement is taken, no operation can be performed in the mouth, or the plates will not fit. Prosthetic procedures such as bridges and implants are performed after the treatment.

After the preparations required before the Invisalign treatment are completed, the patient's photographs and teeth are measured with three-dimensional digital scanning. The measurements reach the United States digitally on the same day. It takes about 4-6 weeks to create the treatment plan, produce and ship the aligners.

After the plates arrive, the attachments (protrusions from the tooth-coloured filling material) that enable the teeth to move at the first appointment are adhered to the teeth. Then, after the abrasions on the teeth, which are made to create space, especially in the crooked teeth, the plates up to the 2nd appointment are delivered to the patient.
In some difficult cases, rubbers that can only be put on and taken off at night can be used to correct the closure of the mouth. In addition, mini screw systems can also be used in difficult cases.
If you lose your plate, contact your dentist by continuing to use the previous plate from Invisalign.

After the treatment is over, as in all orthodontic treatment is complete, a very thin "retainer" is attached to the inner side of the teeth in order to prevent the treatment from reversing. This thin wire must remain in your mouth at all times and will be bonded to your teeth.

You will get used to the retainer wire 2-3 days after it is attached. It will be a part of you. You will need to spend more time on that area while brushing your teeth.
In order to perform Invisalign treatment, physicians must first obtain a certificate. In Invisalign, the treatment plan is made by the physician. In order to obtain proper and correct results in the treatment, the treatment must be performed by a specialist physician.

Brackets - Orthodontic wire

In orthodontic treatment, it is necessary to get support from points in the mouth in order to move teeth. We create this with brackets and rings placed on the teeth. By guiding the braces from these support points, the orientation and positioning of the teeth is accurate.

Brackets can be metal or ceramic according to aesthetic expectations. Covered brackets can also be used for faster and less control-requiring treatments.

Invisible braces - Lingual orthodontics

Another option for aesthetic orthodontics is lingual orthodontics.

Metal brackets produced in a personalized laboratory are adhered to the back of teeth (tongue and palate surface of the teeth).

Defects in your teeth are fixed without anyone noticing. The brackets on the tongue side do not cause any discomfort to the person after the getting used to.

Orthodontics for children

The orthodontic treatment process in children is generally known as the 11-12 age period.

Many orthodontic treatments are performed at this age. The right approach is to have the first orthodontic examination of children when the child reaches the age of 7. This is when the milk teeth begin to fall out.

In this period, by early intervention with simple orthodontic appliances, the severity of the problem can be reduced and difficult treatments that may be required in the future can be prevented.

Consult an orthodontist

“Every child is the most beautiful child in the world to their parents. Therefore, abnormal situations are detected early, and necessary treatments are carried out on time”

If children (7-12 years old) have the following problems, an orthodontist should be consulted:

If you have doubts about whether your child has one or more of these problems, you should contact an orthodontist for an examination.

Orthognathic surgery

When patients with skeletal jaw problems apply to us, if the patient is past the age of growth and development, it is not possible to correct the jaws with orthodontic/orthopaedic appliances. In these cases, orthognathic surgery is the only available option, usually alongside orthodontic treatment.

Orthognathic surgery is a treatment option that aims to correct the skeletal structure and deformities of the jaws and the relationship between the jaw and face, performed by a plastic surgeon or maxillofacial surgeon under general anaesthesia.

Frequently asked questions about orthodontic treatment - Braces

There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. However, the treatment of skeletal disorders, which we call the front or back of the jaws, should be done before the age of 12. This treatment becomes much more difficult with increased age when the patient has stopped growing. For this reason, we recommend our patients to have an orthodontic examination before 7 years old.
Even if the patient is aesthetically satisfied with the good alignment of the teeth, it is preferred to be treated in a timely manner, since the teeth do not overlap functionally.
Wires, which we call brackets, were traditionally used in the correction of orthodontic problems. With the development of technology, aesthetic solutions such as aligners and porcelain brackets fixed on the back surfaces of the teeth have been developed.
An aesthetic smile increases one's self-confidence. Orthodontics is a healthy treatment to create correctly aligned teeth. The presence of crooked teeth means areas between teeth that are difficult to clean. Areas that are difficult to clean are prone to caries. In other words, in the presence of crowding, orthodontic treatment is completed for functionality and health, as well as aesthetics.
Before orthodontic treatment, caries in the mouth and root canal treatments must be done. After the orthodontic treatment has started, professional tartar cleaning by the physician at regular intervals and special oral care that should be performed by the patient at home will be effective in preventing new cavities and gum problems.
Patients undergoing orthodontic treatment should clean using interproximal brushes between teeth and the brackets, as well as brushing their teeth 3 times a day with an orthodontic toothbrush. Mouthwashes can be used as an aid in this care.
Brackets are attached in the mouth with materials similar to white filling. These materials can be separated from the tooth by consuming extremely cold and acidic foods. Consumption of hard food can also cause the brackets to fail.
Teeth move with forces applied to them. Failing of the bracket means that this force is no longer applied to the tooth and the orthodontic treatment is interrupted. Fallen brackets should be re-glued as soon as possible.
The priority here is to eliminate the factor, that is, to stop thumb sucking on time. If thumb sucking is stopped before the age of 6, it is expected that the teeth will come back into the correct position. If it does not improve completely, orthodontic treatment is taken after 12 years old.
Impacted canines can be replaced according to their position in the x-ray and their condition in the jaw. Panoramic x-rays or three-dimensional tomographies are taken to determine the positions of these teeth.
Crowding occurs when a child inherits a mixture of genetics from their parents, such as large teeth, small jaw size and a small face. However, the fact that the mother or father has such a problem does not mean that the child's teeth will be crooked.
These appliances, which are given after orthodontic treatment, enable the teeth to maintain their final position. When not used, they cause deterioration of the teeth and it may be necessary to repeat orthodontic treatment using brackets.
There are fixed wires placed behind the teeth called "retainers", but it may not be applicable to every patient. The physician decides which method is best according to each case.
